The Body Shop

Join the world's largest protest against trafficking

Since July 2010, more than 4.8 million people have signed The Body Shop's and ECPAT's global petition against child-trafficking. The next step is a global, virtual, protest march. Britny is the bureau behind the campaign, which is to be launched in late February 2011.

In August 2009 The Body Shop and ECPAT launched a common campaign against child sex trade. The global petition has been running since July 2010. And so far, close to 5 million people have signed it. Now the campaign continues on the Internet and the goal is a virtual protest march that will go through many of the world's cities, including London, Berlin, Madrid, Paris and Stockholm.

- The Body Shop is built on strong values and has never backed down from taking a stand on difficult and controversial issues. Our deceased founder, Dame Anita Ruddick, decided short before her death to work against what she called "modern slavery". We see the campaign as a continuation of this important work, "says Karin Wickberg Taylor, Marketing and PR manager at The Body Shop.

The digital campaign consists of a mobile application and a widget that lets users create their own petitions on Facebook and blogs. Via the widget you can see which city and blog that collects the most signatures. Then the collected signatures are converted to a virtual protest march, which can be seen in The Body Shop's mobile application based on Augumented Reality. Britny created the app and it’ll soon be launched.

- Since the petition started we’ve collected about 180 000 names in Sweden. With the campaign, we urge our customers, suppliers, bloggers, media partners, companies and organizations to post the widget on their Facebook walls, blogs or websites and help stop this disgusting activity, Wickberg continues.

Linked to the collection of signatures a world map is continuously updated. Through the application in your phone you can see how many people who have signed and where they are from – in real time. When the petition closes this summer, representatives from the Body Shop will hand over the lists of signatures to the respective governments in the countries involved, and to the United Nations during autumn 2011.

- It feels good to cooperate with The Body Shop in such an important issue. The campaign is a perfect mix between a strong concept and forefront technologies, says Tobias Persson, project manager at Britny. We’ve been working with The Body Shop since March 2010 and this campaign is our second for them.
